About Rotaract

Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women ages 18 to 30. Rotaract clubs are either community or university based, and they’re sponsored by a local Rotary club. Rotaract focuses on the development of young adults as leaders in their communities and workplaces. Clubs around the world also take part in international service projects, in a global effort to bring peace and international understanding to the world.

 

Most Rotaract activities take place at the club level. Rotaract clubs hold formal meetings, usually every two weeks, which feature speakers, special outings, social activities, discussions or visits to other clubs. Club members get together on designated days for service project work, social events, or professional/leadership development workshops.


History of Rotaract

Rotaract stands for "Rotary in action". The first club was chartered in 1968 at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Now, Rotaract has grown into a major Rotary-sponsored organisation of over 8,700 clubs spread around the world and 200,000 + members. 

Founding Principle

A founding principle of Rotary was to meet periodically to enjoy camaraderie and enlarge one’s circle of business and professional acquaintances. As the oldest service club in the world, Rotary club members represent a cross-section of the community’s owners, executives, managers, political leaders, and professionals – people who make decisions and influence policy. 

As it approached the 21st century, Rotary worked to meet society’s changing needs, expanding its service efforts to address such pressing issues as environmental degradation, illiteracy, world hunger, and children at risk. Visit www.rotary.org for more information.

Today

Today there are over 7,100 clubs in 163 countries and geographic areas with an estimated membership of 163,000 young men and women worldwide.
