How to Audition
To submit an audition video to qualify for Rotaract Singfest, simply:
1. Upload a video of your singing talent onto your YouTube account (www.youtube.com). Please ensure that the video is set to public viewing.
2. Send a link to your video along with the following information to singfest@rotaractmississauga.com.
Note: By submitting an audition video, you thereby agree to the Official Singfest Rules and Regulations, which can be found below.
3. Your video will be reviewed by the Rotaract Singfest Committee and added to the "Favourites" list on the Rotaract Singfest YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/rotaractsingfest). At this point, feel free to pass the video around to friends and family and have them view and/or comment on the video.
4. Once the online auditions have closed, the Rotaract Singfest committee will review the auditions and determine whether you will be selected to move on to the live audition round.
About Rotary International, Rotaract and Amacon Rotary Ribfest
Rotary International is a not-for-profit, service club organization with 1.2 million
members world-wide that provide humanitarian service, promote high ethical
standards in all vocations and promote peace and goodwill throughout the
world following the motto "Service Above Self". Its Rotaract clubs are comprised of young professionals
who work in partnership with their local Rotary clubs to host events such as Ribfest – Mississauga’s largest
community summer festival. Ribfest draws people from all ethnic backgrounds to enjoy great food and
entertainment at the heart of Mississauga. Like last year, the 9th Annual Ribfest will be held at the state-of-
the-art “Celebration Square” near City Hall from July 19 – 22, 2012 and is expected to bring together over
100,000 visitors.
About Rotaract Singfest
Rotaract Singfest is a solo singing competition for youth in the community between the ages of 14 and 24 and will be held in conjunction with the Amacon Rotary Ribfest on July 20, 2012 at 7 p.m. at the main stage of Celebration
Square. Singfest will provide an opportunity to showcase the talent of the selected contestants at a local
community event with an opportunity to win great prizes.

Official Rules and Regulations
Overview
Rotaract Singfest is a solo singing competition for youth between the ages of 14 to 24 that will be held at the Amacon Rotary Ribfest on July 20th, 2012. The event is organized and sponsored by the Rotaract Club of Mississauga (RCM).
Interested vocalists are required to audition online by submitting a video recording of his or her vocal talent by March 1, 2012 at 11:59 pm.
All online submission will be screened and the top 40 candidates will be selected for the live audition round.
Live audition round: will be held live, in-person at a chosen venue (to be determined). A panel of judges will screen and select the top 20 contestants to compete during Singfest 2012.
Eligibility
1. This competition is open to youth between the ages of 14 to 24 (must have turned 14 years of age by July 1, 2012 and still 24 years of age by July 1, 2012).
2. RCM has the right at any time to require proof of identity and/or eligibility. RCM reserves the right to disqualify any contestant from the competition or auditioning process in its sole discretion, should the contestant at any time supply untruthful, inaccurate or misleading personal details and/or information.
3. Applicants must not be affiliated with any recording agency, music label, or with any of the competition judges, being such will result in disqualification.
4. By submitting an audition video, each contestant thereby agrees to comply with the Rotaract Singfest 2012 Official Rules and Regulations.
5. All contestants who qualify to compete in Singfest are required to sign and submit the Release Waiver to the RCM committee. Contestants between the ages of 14 and 18 years are required to obtain written content by a parent or legal guardian to participate. Please see the attached Release Waiver.
Audition & Selection
1. Online submission video must be a solo act. You may use one of the following methods: a musical instrument accompaniment, background music (no voice in the background) or a cappella. No duets or group performances will be permitted or any other form of audition, any attempt will result in disqualification.
2. Auditions will take place online until March 1, 2012. Should RCM deem it necessary, the deadline may be extended and will be communicated on the Singfest page on the Rotaract Mississauga website which is accessible to the public, including all participants. (singfest.rotaractmississauga.com)
3. Contestants will be required to record a short video containing a singing performance of a song of their choice. To submit an audition video to qualify for Rotaract Singfest, each contest must:
1) Upload a video onto his or her own YouTube account www.youtube.com. Please note, only the first minute of your video will be screened.
2) Send a link to his or her video along with the following information to singfest@rotaractmississauga.com. Include: your full name, age, city of residence, phone number, e-mail address, original song title and artist and the YouTube link.
3) Videos should not contain any profanity or vulgar sexual language. Each video will be screened by the Rotaract Singfest committee who will determine entries that qualify to compete.
4) Once qualified, videos will be added to the “Favourites¨ list on the Rotaract Singfest channel: www.youtube.com/rotaractsingfest

5) Video auditions will be uploaded to the Rotaract Singfest YouTube page for public consumption. The RCM Singfest Committee and panel of judges will review the auditions and select contestants to compete at the event. Twenty (20) selected contestants will be announced on the Rotaract Singfest web page and Facebook page and also duly informed via e-mail.
6) The twenty (20) selected contestants will comprise of ten (10) contestants from each gender group ten (10) male and ten (10) female. Note: this is subject to change if unequal amount of participants are available per gender group.
The Competition
1. The competition will start at 7 p.m. and run until 11 p.m. on July 20th, 2012
2. Contestants must arrive at the venue by 6 p.m. the night of the competition.
3. Contestants are not permitted to leave the stage or stage area during their performance. This includes singing or performing within the audience.
4. Contestants must be present or accessible at all times throughout the show. If he or she is absent when called upon, RCM holds the right to disqualify the contestant from the competition.
Song Selection
1. Contestants may not utilize back-up singers, dancers, any other prop or bodies on the stage. Costumes are permitted.
2. Contestants may use one (1) musical accompaniment that they must play themselves, no extra person to play musical accompaniment. Contestants must prepare two (2) songs for the show. Background music must be free of background singers, only musical instruments are acceptable. If a contestant is unable to provide music, an arrangement mutually agreed upon with the RCM must be made a minimum of 2 weeks prior to the competition day.
3. The time limit for each contestant is 3 minutes. Only one song may be sung within the 3 minutes. There are absolutely no exceptions. Contestants are responsible for editing their own music to fit this requirement. Fading at the 3 minute mark is highly recommended for smooth transition.
4. Contestants may sing the same song as another contestant.
5. Song selection must be approved by the RCM a minimum of 2 weeks prior to the competition day.
6. No changes in song choice may be made once the contestant has submitted the background music to a RCM representative.
7. Songs containing vulgar or explicit sexual lyrics are not permitted.
Winner Selection
1. The 1st , 2nd and 3rdplace winners of the competition will be determined by vote on the day-of the event and will be weighted between audience ballot (40%) and a predetermined panel of judges (60%). RCM will tally the votes and announce the winner by 11 p.m. that evening. Prizes are to be determined.
a. Immediately after each individual performance, contestants will receive a critique from a panel of judges. The judges will provide comments and feedback and will be partially responsible for determining the winner. Judges will be selected by the RCM committee and will be required to be professional, fair and impartial.
b. Voting will also occur by audience ballot and will be available only on the day of the event. Ballots will be distributed to audience members, at which time votes will be tallied throughout the event.
2. The winners will be announced on the RCM website and Facebook pages.
3. 1st place winner will be awarded a “rock star” experience. 2nd and 3rdplace winners will be awarded a prize of lesser value. The prize packages will be arranged by RCM and final prize details will be announced closer to the competition day.
Behaviour Expectation
1. Contestants should dress appropriately for a family-friendly community event (i.e. no midriffs, short, revealing shorts/skirts, profanity on clothing, etc.).
2. Contestants who use any obscene, offensive, sexual or otherwise inappropriate behaviour or gestures, including without limitation those referencing or depicting violence, nudity or explicit activity - or which are not in the spirit of the competition or do not meet RCM¡¦s standards for any reason, as determined by RCM will be disqualified from the competition. This includes before, after or during the performance or at any time during which the individual is representing Singfest, RCM or Rotary.
3. Illegal or controlled substances, alcohol, or weapons are not permitted at the competition.
4. Contestants are encouraged to invite supporters to the event. Negative comments or actions toward any contestants, audience member, judges or otherwise will not be tolerated. RCM holds the right to pardon guests if behaviour deemed inappropriate continues.
